Job Summary:

Evozyne is seeking a VP, Protein Design to oversee development and optimization of our generative AI capabilities. Reporting to the COO, the VP, Protein Design will construct and implement novel approaches to model protein structure, develop structural alignment tools, and work with experimental teams as part of our iterative Design-Build-Test loop. The VP, Protein Design will lead current capabilities and infrastructure to enable development of AI/ML tools that advance our product pipeline. The successful candidate will oversee a team of data scientists, software engineers, and bioinformaticians to develop and augment foundational machine learning and computational methods with the ultimate aim of contributing to our R&D and target discovery processes.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage and develop a team of data scientists, bioinformaticians, and software engineers to provide portfolio support for computational protein design and modeling needs
  • Help define and implement strategic, operational, and financial plans for the Computational Sciences organization, with a strong focus on AI/ML capabilities.
  • Manage cross-functional discussions and projects for Computational Sciences, interfacing with Protein Sciences, Preclinical, and Clinical arms of the organization
  • In collaboration with the group, set the direction for engineering practices and methodologies related to data and model management, protein generation workflows, and wet-to-dry lab
  • Work closely with teams that generate wet lab data to support product development and achieve project milestones
  • Optimize data science and bioinformatics SOPs, including multi-sequence alignment, NGS, immunogenic, target analysis, etc
  • Expand current capacity and establish infrastructure to align internal and external resources with portfolio priorities.
  • Mentor, recruit, and coach junior colleagues focused on computational protein design through direct line management relationships
  • Drive innovation by shaping internal research priorities and brokering collaborations with industry and academic partners
  • Advance AI/ML and computation-enabled drug discovery and development and data-driven decision making for an end-to-end approach towards discovery and development of therapeutics
  • Develop innovative computational approaches and platforms for emerging areas of science
  • Communicate key technological advancements to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Help define and implement strategic, operational, and financial plans for the Computational Sciences organization, with a strong focus on machine learning capabilities.
  • Manage cross-functional discussions and projects for Computational Sciences, interfacing with Protein Sciences, Preclinical, and Clinical arms of the organization
  • In collaboration with the group, set the direction for engineering practices and methodologies related to data and model management, protein generation workflows, and wet-to-dry lab APIs

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in data science, computational biology, chemical/protein engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years experience in biotech of pharma
  • 4+ years leadership and management experience
  • Extensive experience in the field of protein modeling and protein engineering with a proven ability to impact protein discovery and development efforts
  • Scientific rigor and commitment to excellence and innovation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate with multi-disciplinary stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong leadership and people management skills
  • Experience managing multiple cross-functional project teams in a matrixed environment
