Rechargeable batteries are critical for enabling sustainable solutions such as electric vehicles, drone/air taxis, and large-scale energy storage. Metal-air batteries have the potential to improve upon current battery technologies with up to 20x the energy density.
Metal-air batteries have two problems that remain unresolved; the internal reactions are slow, requiring large surface areas and slower cycles, and harmful byproducts are formed that degrade the battery.
Using a powerful enzymatic solution, we are developing an air cathode that eliminates the formation of harmful byproducts and can more efficiently catalyze reactions for charge and discharge cycles.
